Culver Golf

By Ron Haramia Sports Writer

CULVER - The weather might not always agree, but the calendar says that soon high school boys golfers will be playing rounds where the scores matter. Culver Community head coach Josh Pugh is excited to see how his team will perform this season.

“We have a good balance of experience and newcomers this year,” said Pugh.

The experience is the return of the team’s two top players from a year ago in seniors Steven Pugh and Rylan Vote.

“Steven and Rylan have played a lot of golf and we expect them to lead us in whatever we do,” added Pugh.

The newcomers to watch are senior Jason Cadle and junior Aleks Stacy.

“Jason and Aleks are new to competitive golf, but both are seasoned athletes,” continued Pugh. “I hope to see them use that competitive experience throughout the season.”

The Cavaliers’ first five matches are away, starting with the season-opener against Laville on April 6 at Swan Lake. The first outing on the home course of Makinkuckee Country Club is May 4 with a threeway match against South Central and Lakeland Christian. The Hoosier North Athletic Conference match is May 20 and will be played at Round Barn in Rochester.

“The outlook for the HNAC is wide open,” Pugh said. “I expect a lot of teams to be competitive.”

Another highlight to the season schedule is the Marshall County match on May 6 at Swan Lake.
